One gorilla trek in Bwindi and four nights beside the Mara River, with every transfer flown
Itinerary ref: MC-032
A 10 day gorilla trekking and migration safari pairs one mountain gorilla trek in Bwindi with four nights beside the Mara River. Every long leg is flown, so ten days really means ten days on the ground. The timing suits late July to mid-September, when the herds are in the Maasai Mara and Bwindi is in one of its drier spells.
Tell us when you can travel and how many of you there are, and we will check permit availability and flight seats for the 10 day gorilla trekking and migration safari.
Enquire About This SafariThis route is for guests who want mountain gorillas and the Great Migration but cannot spare two weeks. It starts at Entebbe, flies to Bwindi for one gorilla trek, connects through Nairobi and ends with four nights in the Maasai Mara. Both countries sit on the same visa, so the paperwork is simple, and the flights between them are short.
The trip is a fixed ten-day product, not a menu. If you are still deciding whether to combine the two experiences, our guide to gorillas and the Great Migration compares the months, the gateway countries and the days. If you want to understand the connection through Nairobi first, read the Entebbe to Masai Mara safari guide.
Prefer Rwanda for the gorillas? The 8 day Rwanda and Kenya safari is shorter, and the 10 day Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania safari adds the Serengeti.

Here is the trip in order, from the arrival at Entebbe to the flight home from Nairobi.
Our driver-guide is at the arrivals hall in Entebbe and takes you to a nearby lodge. Nothing is planned for the evening, which is deliberate: the trip begins with a proper night's sleep. If you land early, our Entebbe day trips guide lists what is worth doing around the airport.
The morning flight runs from Entebbe to Kihihi in about 1h15, and a driver completes the journey to Buhoma Lodge. In the afternoon your guide explains how tomorrow's trek works. Dinner is early.
Breakfast is early. At the park office the rangers match you with a habituated gorilla family, and guides and trackers lead the way into the forest. Finding the family can take half an hour or most of the morning. Once you do, the group is allowed one hour beside them. By the afternoon you are back at the lodge, resting.
After breakfast you leave Buhoma, fly from Kihihi to Entebbe and change to the scheduled service to Nairobi, which takes about 1h15 to 1h30. Your hotel for the night is on the Wilson Airport side of the city. Two flights and a transfer in one day leave no slack, so the Nairobi night is built in on purpose.
A short transfer takes you to Wilson Airport for the morning flight, which lasts 45 to 60 minutes. A guide waits at the airstrip with the safari vehicle, and the drive to camp doubles as your first game drive. Lunch comes before the first full afternoon out.
This is a long day on the plains. You set out at first light, eat breakfast outdoors, rest through the midday heat and drive again as the light softens. Your guide reads the morning's sightings to decide where to go next, and the reserve holds big cats, elephants and buffalo in every month.
Your guide heads for the Mara River. From late July to October the herds collect on the banks before they cross, and crossings are likeliest from mid-August. The vehicle is placed early and waits, since a crossing begins and ends on the herd's own schedule. If the herd turns back, the day still brings hippos, crocodiles and wildebeest in clear view.
The second river day lets you choose again. Return to the bank you watched yesterday, follow the herds over the plains, or stay longer with one pride of lions or a single cheetah. Four nights give you three clear days of drives.
A last morning drive is followed by the flight to Wilson Airport and a transfer to your Nairobi hotel. Sleeping in Nairobi absorbs a late bush flight, so a delay can never cost you the journey home.
Your driver takes you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for the flight home. A late departure leaves free hours, and we can book a day room or a short stop in Nairobi to fill them. Our Nairobi National Park guide covers a short wildlife visit before you fly.
The Bwindi trek is the heart of the Uganda leg, and for most guests one trek is plenty. Two nights at Buhoma turn the arrival day into a rest day and leave the next morning free for the forest. Each gorilla family takes only a small group a day, so we secure your permit before anything else is booked. Our gorilla permit booking guide explains the process.
As checked on 12 October 2026, a Uganda gorilla permit is US$800 per person for 2026, and trekkers must be 15 or older. The rangers brief you at the park office, you walk until the trackers find the family, and then you stay for one hour. Your quote confirms the permit price for your own travel year. Our Bwindi sector guide describes the four sectors, and how fit you need to be sets realistic expectations for the walk.
Want several treks? The Uganda primates safari keeps every day in Uganda.

The Great Migration is a never-ending circuit of wildebeest and zebra, not a single event. The herds are usually in the Maasai Mara from late July to October, and the Mara River crossings are likeliest from mid-August through September. A herd crosses when it is ready and can wait on the bank for days, so no operator can promise a crossing. This route therefore gives the river four nights instead of two.
Your camp sits close to the river, and your guide decides each morning where to wait. For the odds, read our guides to the timing of Mara River crossings and the Great Migration in August. How the Great Migration works covers the full annual cycle.

No scheduled flight links Uganda directly to the Maasai Mara. The route runs from Bwindi to Entebbe, from Entebbe to Nairobi and from Wilson Airport to the Mara, so we build in a Nairobi connection night rather than risk two flights and a transfer in one day. That night is what makes the 10 day gorilla trekking and migration safari reliable. A delayed light aircraft then costs you nothing.
The same night protects the way home. Mara flights land at Wilson Airport, and your international flight leaves from Jomo Kenyatta, so we place a second Nairobi night before you depart. The Mara flights cap each traveller at about 15 kg, hand luggage included, in a soft bag. Our guide to safari luggage weight limits explains what to pack, and the Entebbe to Masai Mara safari guide sets out each connection.
Late July to mid-September is the best time. Bwindi has one of its drier spells, the herds are in the Mara, and the crossings are likeliest from mid-August. These are also the busiest weeks, so permits and river camps need booking early. Our guide on how far ahead to book a migration safari gives the timings.
Outside those months the 10 day gorilla trekking and migration safari still works, with changes. The gorillas are trekked all year, but the herds are not always in the Mara, so we move the emphasis to lions, cheetahs, elephants and the resident game. Read the guides to the best time to visit Uganda and Kenya before you choose your dates, or ask us for the dates we would pick.
Two lodges anchor the trip, chosen for position: Buhoma Lodge sits near the Bwindi trailheads, and Sanctuary Olonana overlooks the Mara River.
A full lodge is replaced by a close alternative in the same area, and you are told before you pay.

Because both countries share one visa, this 10 day gorilla trekking and migration safari is simple to arrange. We advise insurance that covers medical evacuation, and our insurance guide explains why. Treat the points above as checked facts rather than promises, and verify them on the official portals before you fly.
