It runs at a higher per-night cost than an equivalent northern-circuit package, reflecting the remote, fly-in-only camps and lower guest density, and we generally recommend it to travelers who have already done a classic Tanzania safari rather than as a first trip. The package can be booked entirely on its own, flown into directly from Dar es Salaam, or tacked onto the end of a northern-circuit package for clients who want to see both halves of the country in one trip — though we're upfront that this combination adds a meaningful amount of flying and works best on a 15+ day timeline rather than a rushed add-on. If solitude and a genuinely different safari format (boat and walking safaris alongside game drives) matter more to you than ticking off the Serengeti and the crater, this package, not the northern-circuit options above, should be your starting point.

June through October is the most reliable window for this package specifically, when water levels on the Rufiji River make boat safaris consistently possible and the dry vegetation opens up game viewing on foot. Camps in this region are smaller and more remote than their northern-circuit equivalents by design, so the per-night lodge cost tends to run higher even at the same Comfort tier — a genuine trade-off for the lower guest density, not an inconsistency in our pricing.

• Assuming total trip length is what drives per-day cost. It usually isn't — which parks and which lodge tier a package uses matters far more. Our own numbers bear this out: a longer, entirely Comfort-tier multi-country trip can work out to a lower per-day cost than a short trip at Ultra-Luxury tier. Compare route and tier before assuming a shorter package is automatically the cheaper one per day.
