That figure moves only with the season, your chosen lodge tier, and how many travelers are sharing.

Chapter 02Uganda Safari Packages by Duration

How many days you have is usually the single biggest factor in which package makes sense. A useful rule of thumb: gorilla trekking alone justifies a minimum of 3 full days once travel to and from Bwindi or Mgahinga is counted, so a genuinely rushed 4-5 day Uganda trip rarely does the country justice — which is why our shortest package runs 6 days, not fewer.

6–8 Days: The Focused Introduction

At this length, we keep you to one or two parks rather than spreading you thin. The Classic Gorilla Trekking Safari (6 days, from $3,800pp) is the tightest possible gorilla-only trip. The Uganda Gorilla Trek & Nile Adventure (7 days, from $4,700pp) pairs the trek with Jinja's white-water rafting and a Nile sunset cruise. The Uganda Primates: Gorillas & Chimpanzees (8 days, from $5,200pp) is the shortest package to combine both primate treks with a savanna park.

9–11 Days: Room for Three Parks

This range is where a Uganda-only package can properly cover three parks without rushed transfers. The Uganda Family Primate Safari (9 days, from $5,900pp) is our family-paced version of this. Once you're past 12 days, a package usually stops being "just Uganda" and starts combining countries. Chapter 03Uganda Safari Packages by Budget & Style

Every package above is priced at our Comfort tier as a starting point, but each can be built at three different lodge tiers. The itinerary and route stay the same — what changes is where you sleep and how private your game drives and treks are.

One thing that doesn't change between tiers: gorilla and chimpanzee permit fees are fixed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority regardless of which lodge tier you book, so the gap between a Comfort and Ultra-Luxury version of the same package is entirely about accommodation and vehicle privacy, not the trekking experience itself. What Actually Moves Your Final Price

• Season. The same package can cost more in the June–August and December–February dry windows than in the April–May or October–November shoulder months, since lodge rates move with demand.
• Lodge tier. As above, moving from Comfort to Premium to Ultra-Luxury is usually the single biggest lever on total price.
• Gorilla and chimpanzee permit count. A package with two gorilla treks, or a gorilla plus a chimp trek, costs meaningfully more than one with a single trek — this is a fixed government fee, not a markup, and it's itemized separately on every quote.
• Group size and room sharing. Most rates are quoted per person sharing; a solo traveler typically faces a disclosed single-supplement adjustment.
• Internal flights versus road transfers. Flying between, say, Bwindi and Murchison Falls is faster and more comfortable but adds real cost; we tell you which legs use which, and why.

The Uganda Family Primate Safari (9 days, from $5,900pp) is purpose-built for this: a gentler pace, family-friendly lodges, and Queen Elizabeth's easy game drives alongside Kibale's chimp tracking. Note that UWA sets a minimum age of 15 for gorilla trekking permits, so families with younger children typically build around chimp tracking and savanna game drives instead. The Uganda Gorilla Trek & Nile Adventure (7 days, from $4,700pp) is a popular shorter honeymoon choice, pairing an intimate gorilla trek with Jinja's more playful Nile activities. The Uganda Birding & Gorilla Safari (11 days, from $7,600pp) is our dedicated package for this — built around Bwindi, Kibale and Queen Elizabeth, three of the parks with Uganda's strongest bird counts, alongside gorilla trekking. It's a genuinely different pace from our other packages: more time stationary with a specialist guide, less time driving between sights.

Solo Traveler Packages

Group Packages

Traveling as a group of five or more generally brings the effective per-person cost down, particularly on shared vehicle costs. Any package above can be rebuilt around a larger group — tell us your group size and we handle splitting vehicles, rooms and gorilla permits (remember, group sizes for a single gorilla trek are capped at 8 visitors per habituated group, so larger groups sometimes need to split across two treks or two days).

Chapter 05Gorilla & Chimpanzee Permits Within These Prices

Permits are the one Uganda-specific cost that catches first-time travelers off guard, so it's worth explaining clearly rather than burying it in fine print. Every "from" price on this page for a package that includes primate trekking already has the correct number of permits built in — you are not quoted a package price and then separately blindsided by a permit fee. But it helps to understand what's driving the number.

A gorilla trekking permit currently costs $800 per person under the official 2024–2026 Uganda Wildlife Authority tariff, and a chimpanzee tracking permit costs $250 at Kibale or $100 at Queen Elizabeth's Kyambura Gorge. These are fixed government fees, identical whether you book Comfort or Ultra-Luxury — they are the single biggest reason a package with two primate treks costs meaningfully more than an otherwise similar package with one. We're upfront about the two things that most commonly surprise first-time bookers. First, most camps price rooms per person sharing, not per room — a solo traveler should expect a disclosed single-supplement adjustment. Second, park and permit fees are set annually by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and can change; our quotes always reflect the current rate at the time you book.

Packages That Don't Include Gorilla Trekking

Not every traveler wants, or can do, a gorilla trek — the cost, the physical demands, or simply having done it on a previous trip are all common reasons. The Uganda Family Primate Safari can be built around Kibale chimp tracking and Queen Elizabeth game drives alone, dropping the gorilla permit entirely and lowering the price accordingly. Tell your specialist up front if this is what you want, since several of our published packages assume a gorilla trek by default and need this specific adjustment.

None of our current published packages include Kidepo Valley, Uganda's most remote park, given the extra flying it requires relative to the southwest and western circuits most packages run on. Every confirmed package comes with real, downloadable documents — a detailed itinerary, an invoice, and any vouchers your camps require — and a specialist who stays reachable for the entire trip. Chapter 11Common Mistakes When Comparing Uganda Safari Packages

• Comparing a "from" price without checking how many permits it includes. A package with two primate treks will always cost more than one with a single trek at the same lodge tier — that's the $250–$800 permit fee, not inconsistent pricing.
• Assuming a longer trip always costs more per day. It usually doesn't — which parks and how many permits a package uses matters far more than raw day count.
• Not confirming whether permits are already included. Some operators quote a headline price that excludes gorilla or chimp permits, which can add $250–$1,600 per person once disclosed. Every price on this page already includes the correct number of permits.
• Booking gorilla permits at the last minute. At 8 permits per group per day, high-season dates sell out months ahead — this affects your package choice more than almost anything else.
• Treating a published package as fixed when it's actually a starting template. Most of what can be customized only becomes clear once you actually ask.
• Ignoring the internal flight versus road-transfer mix. Two similarly priced packages can feel very different day to day depending on how you move between Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls specifically.

Why the Same Package Can Show Different Prices on Different Sites

If you've searched around before landing here, you may have noticed the same route quoted at different prices by different operators. Two things usually explain the gap: the lodge tier actually being quoted, and whether the gorilla or chimpanzee permit fee is already included in the headline number or added afterward once you enquire. None of this means a lower quote elsewhere is dishonest — it usually just means a different, worth-confirming set of inclusions. Asking any operator for a full, itemized breakdown before you compare is the single best way to see past this.

A Closer LookWhat a Typical Package Day Looks Like

To make these packages less abstract, here's a real shape of a trekking day from our 10-day Uganda Complete package's Bwindi leg: an early breakfast before a pre-dawn briefing at the park office, a briefing on the day's assigned gorilla group and expected trek difficulty, then a trek that can run anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours each way depending on where the group was last located, one hour with the gorillas once found, and a return to the lodge by mid-afternoon with the rest of the day free. Savanna days at Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls, by contrast, run on a more familiar safari rhythm: a dawn game drive, a midday rest at the lodge, and a second afternoon drive or boat cruise. Knowing this mix of pacing in advance is part of why we build in the specific park order we do on each package above, rather than treating every day as interchangeable.

One last practical note worth flagging before you book: Uganda's parks are genuinely spread across the country rather than clustered like Tanzania's northern circuit, so the specific order a package visits its parks in matters more here than it might elsewhere. A package that visits Bwindi, then Queen Elizabeth, then Kibale follows a natural westward loop through Uganda's southwest; one that tries to also squeeze in Murchison Falls in the same trip adds a meaningful detour north and back. None of our published packages ask you to backtrack unnecessarily, but if you ask us to swap park order to fit a specific flight or event, your specialist will tell you honestly if that adds driving time you might not want, rather than silently rearranging the route and leaving you to discover it on the road.
